If you follow hololive, you have probably seen the card game in stream clips and wondered whether it is worth buying into. This guide covers what the hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME is, where it came from, how big it has become, and what is inside Summer hologram, the new Extra Booster that opens the English game's second year.

What is the hololive card game?

The hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME (players shorten it to hOCG or hololive OCG) is a trading card game built around the talents of hololive production, the VTuber agency run by COVER Corporation. COVER develops and produces the game in-house. Bushiroad, the company behind Weiss Schwarz and Cardfight!! Vanguard, handles retail distribution and official tournaments for both the Japanese and English editions.

That in-house design shows in the theme. The game is framed as a live performance, not a battle. You are a fan producing a stage for your favorite talent. Your holomem cards perform from center, collab and back positions, and the discard pile is called the Archive, a nod to archived streams.

How does a game work?

Each player picks one Oshi holomem card, which stays in play all game and carries Oshi skills, including a once-per-game SP skill. Alongside it you run a 50-card main deck of holomem and support cards, plus a separate 20-card cheer deck. Your Life total is set from that cheer deck.

A turn moves through Reset, Draw, Cheer, Main, Performance and End steps. During Cheer you attach a cheer card to a holomem, which powers up its Arts. In Performance your holomem use those Arts to knock out the opponent's holomem, and each knockout removes Life from the opponent. You win by reducing your opponent's Life to zero, by clearing every non-Oshi holomem off their stage, or if they run out of cards to draw.

Where did it come from, and how big is it now?

The Japanese edition launched in September 2024 with the Start Deck Tokino Sora & AZKi and the first booster, Blooming Radiance. It won the Media Create New TCG Award in May 2025, and COVER reports the number of Japanese shops carrying the game grew from about 380 at launch to 867 by December 2025. Its first World Grand Prix at Makuhari Messe in January 2025 drew roughly 2,700 visitors.

The English edition arrived on July 11, 2025, sold mainly in North America through card shops and online. English sets so far, in order:

Set Code English release
Blooming Radiance hBP01 July 11, 2025
Quintet Spectrum hBP02 October 17, 2025
Elite Spark hBP03 December 19, 2025
Curious Universe hBP04 February 20, 2026
Enchant Regalia hBP05 April 17, 2026
Ayakashi Vermilion hBP06 June 19, 2026
Summer hologram (Extra Booster) hEB01 September 25, 2026

Organized play followed the cards. English players have had the Bloom Cup DX Challenge events in Houston, Pasadena and Philadelphia, a team Festa in Torrance in August 2026, and a Final Challenge in Tokyo in October 2026, plus weekly shop tournaments. Two more boosters are already announced: Diva Fever on November 20, 2026 and Bouncer Bound on January 29, 2027.

Is this the same as hololive in Weiss Schwarz?

No, and this trips up a lot of first-time buyers. Weiss Schwarz has printed hololive production sets since 2022 (their card numbers start with HOL/), but those are Weiss Schwarz cards that play only inside Weiss Schwarz. The hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME is a separate game with its own rules and its own card codes (hBP, hSD, hEB). Cards from one cannot be used in the other. If the box says hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME with the COVER mark, it is this game.

What is an Extra Booster, and what is in Summer hologram?

Booster Packs (the hBP sets) are the main line and each adds new talents and mechanics. Extra Boosters are a separate line where each release is built around a theme. Summer hologram is the first one, and its theme is "that summer spent with your Oshi." Most of the cards, new and reprinted, carry summer illustrations.

The numbers, from the official product page:

  • Release: September 25, 2026 (English edition).
  • Configuration: 10 cards per pack, 8 packs per box, 12 boxes per case.
  • Card count: 102 standard cards (OSR 3, RR 15, R 22, U 37, C 25) plus 112 parallels (SEC 3, OUR 3, HR 3, UR 15, SR 76, S 6, SY 6).
  • Reprints: 68 of the 102 cards are curated reprints from the first five sets, through Enchant Regalia. 34 cards are new.
  • Guarantee: every pack includes at least one SR or higher.
  • Oshi cards: Tokino Sora, Houshou Marine and Hakui Koyori return as Oshi holomem in new colors, which opens deck options that did not exist before.
  • Chase cards: the three SEC cards carry the talents' handwritten comments, hot-stamped onto the card. SY special cheer cards get new illustrations.

Who should buy Summer hologram?

Because more than half the set is reprints, it works as an on-ramp. A new player can open a box and build a playable deck without hunting older sets. The summer alternate art is the collector angle, and the SEC comment cards are the pull most people will be chasing.

The trade-off is the box size. Eight packs per box is smaller than the twelve-pack Booster Pack boxes, so if you are chasing a specific parallel, the case (12 boxes, 96 packs) is the sealed option that gives you real odds. If you mainly want the new Sora, Marine or Koyori Oshi cards and a deck to play, a single box is the sensible start.

The SY special cheer cards also get new summer illustrations in this set:

What about Ayakashi Vermilion?

Ayakashi Vermilion (hBP06) is the most recent full booster set, released June 19, 2026. It is a bigger product in every way: 12 packs of 8 cards per box, 12 boxes per case, and 141 standard cards (OSR 10, RR 17, R 23, U 38, C 53) with 141 parallels (SEC 5, OUR 8, HR 6, UR 12, SR 44, S 60, SY 6).

The headline is ten talents getting their first Oshi holomem card: Robocosan, Natsuiro Matsuri, Nakiri Ayame, Kazama Iroha, Moona Hoshinova, Hakos Baelz, Raora Panthera, Isaki Riona, Rindo Chihaya and Koganei Niko. Himemori Luna, Mori Calliope and Inugami Korone return in new colors. Five hot-stamped signature cards appear as SEC, there is an alternate art illustrated by Raora Panthera herself, and the SY cheer cards got updated artwork starting with this set. Selected reprints mean you can build a deck from this box alone too.

If you want one product that covers the most talents and the deepest card pool, Ayakashi Vermilion is that box. If you want the summer art and the new-color Oshi cards, Summer hologram is the one to pick up.

Bottom line: Summer hologram is a themed, reprint-heavy Extra Booster that makes a good first purchase and a good collector set, with the SEC comment cards as the chase. Ayakashi Vermilion is the larger, fuller set available today. Both are the real hololive OFFICIAL CARD GAME, not Weiss Schwarz.
